This is a celebration of Buddha's birthday held on 4th of April. It is also called ‘Hana-matsuri’ which means flower festival, because we place beautiful flowers around the statue of Buddha to celebrate.
Sunday Class
Voluntary Works
We had held voluntary works every 2nd and 4th Sunday to maintain the building of our shrine and the gardens. Main activities are lawn mowing, caring for the flower garden, washing external walls and cleaning the inside of the building, as well. It was started as an opportunity to create and develop the charity mind but it has currently been an opportunity to have a conversation with our local community about our lovely gardens.
Community Activities
The building is one of the beautiful historical churches in Waiuku town. This place has a long history with local people belonged to some kinds of religions and cultures. It was a place hold a variety of events including wedding, and we know it has been loved by local people ever. As we hope our friendly community to be relief with our using here, showing ourselves through these activities, we have some activities for the local friends every year.
*In consideration of COVID-19, we stop all our local community activities temporarily.
Christianity
The building had been Wesley Methodist Church since 1883, according to the history of Waiuku till it was sold. It had been opened for an expanded worship and community facility and it have been popular among local people for a long time. Thus, we decided to keep the Holy Cross enshrined in the former church in order to value their precious memories.
